Our Mission

​Our mission at John Spry Community School is to provide a PK-12 quality learning experience, integrating bilingual education, the Fine and Performing Arts and technology while nurturing the whole child in a global community.

School Wide Goals

Primary (Pre-K - 2nd Grade)

Primary students will be at or above national attainment for reading by the end of 2nd grade.

Intermediate (3rd - 5th Grade)

Students in grades 3-5 will participate in daily small-group instruction and independent practice, fostering high-quality learning experiences to help them reach their projected growth targets in reading and math.

Middle School (6th - 8th Grade)

Middle school students in grades 6-8 will engage in daily small-group instruction and independent practice, providing them with meaningful learning opportunities to meet their growth targets in reading and math. Additionally, they will participate in civic dialogue to collaboratively create a positive and inclusive environment for all.

High School (9th - 12th Grade)

The mission of Spry Community Links High School is 100% high school graduation and post-secondary success. We seek to inspire each student to reach their fullest potential by building partnerships between students, faculty and staff, parents, and community members. All students at Spry Community Links are enrolled year-round, including during the summer. Each summer, students take two classes with an accelerated curriculum. This allows students to fulfill their graduation requirements in three years. Spry Community Links students are expected to meet rigorous academic standards as a part of an accelerated, intensive course of study. Students are engaged year-round, taking classes every summer in addition to their full course schedule during the academic year. A minimum of 24 academic units of credit is required for graduation.  Click here to learn more about our early college program

John Spry Community School is located within a bilingual community of the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago.​ As a neighborhood school, Spry takes great effort in providing students a rich learning experience, one that not only focuses on academics, but also empowers them through Social and Emotional strategies while fostering pride in their language and culture. John Spry Community School is a warm, nurturing neighborhood school where everyone - students, parents, staff and community - join together to ensure success for all students.
